He is deeply drawn to portraying women’s faces because they embody such profound depth, complexity, and emotional diversity that never cease to fascinate him. He focuses on painting Asian women because he is Asian himself and feels a natural connection, and a deeper understanding of their emotions, subtle expressions, and the cultural contexts behind them — something he relates to more instinctively than when painting Western faces.
